  2. He does look like a pig and like a bat! (says Ben).

Von here. Hey guys, it's crazy how much we're missing you. Please don't take our silence as lack of interest. It's been pretty gruelling here - bitter bitter cold and heaps of school work and pysio for Neil. We love reading your blog.
Paul and Judi and Zack came round for dinner last night, and in your honour we opted for Mexican! I tried out some new recipes and came up with Mexican rice, baked chickpea and walnut empanadas with a cherry tomato salsa. All your sauces and pickles came out of the fridge! The empanadas turned out lovely - flaky and golden on top and soft and fluffy inside!! Zack was instantly addicted and I had to send Judi home with the recipe. Judi made a beautiful guacamole. For dessert we had a totally un-mexican feast of baclava from the market and a "yule log" cake I made - like a black forest gateaux but rolled up! Yummy.
(I thought it was only fair to make you salivate for a change - hopefully I've managed that)
Ben is picking up Teo's guitar every few hours and plinking away on it. Neil has shown him a few riffs. He's got the stray cat strut nailed!
I offered to sign him up for lessons at Picks and Sticks, but he wants to learn from Neil.
We were so sorry to hear about the loss of your camera. What a blow that must have been! But good on you for not letting it dampen your spirits for long. Speaking of dampened spirits we know how depressing the rain can be - especially when you're travelling. Just be glad you're not in a tent! That Philipe guy must be getting sick of having soggy supplies! Ah the blessings of a combi! Can't wait to hear about the jaguars toucans and howler monkeys! Every animal you mention piques Ben's interest. I'll get him to send a separate comment.
Good on you for getting out of here when you did - we're now knee deep in snow, but at least it's only -10 or so, not like last week's stinging temperatures.
    Love you guys
    Missing you madly

  3. Hi Mateo,
Zack is really missing you guys but I think I am missing you the most. I was walking down the alleyway when I decided to walk up your stairs and have a look. but then I saw your boots. I told my Dad your boots were on your porch. My Dad bugged me to bring them home so we can look at them. At the end of school, I come in kind of happy but then I spot your boots and I feel really sad all over again. I like your hat and I like the dogs. From Ben
